A household favorite, I’ve had it on my list for years to visit, and it did not disappoint! Nestled in the picturesque hills of Napa Valley, Schramsberg Winery is a true gem for wine enthusiasts seeking an extraordinary tasting experience. Yes – it was a bit of a pricey tasting and tour fee ($75/person), but as someone who lives in Napa I found it well worth it. Steeped in rich history dating back to 1862, Schramsberg is not just a winery; it’s a journey through time, tradition, and impeccable craftsmanship. It was so interesting to learn about how they make their sparkling wines! One unique touch – they did nearly lose everything during the massive Wine Country fires a few years back, so there are nice touches thanking the firefighters throughout the property. You can also still see on the trees and sides of some of the buildings where the flames had got up to the property.
After a long drive up a winding road, you’re greeted by lush vineyards and a gorgeous property stretching as far as the eye can see. The beauty of the surroundings sets the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable experience. Walking through the historic caves, where countless bottles of sparkling wine rest, you can feel the weight of tradition and dedication to excellence that defines Schramsberg. It definitely feels regal and elegant here! Fun fact – the family that owns and operates the winery lives in a house right next to the tasting room and operations. Not sure I’d love living that close to my business, but nonetheless it’s a cool thing to see the family’s involvement!
The tasting room is actually in the champagne caves and gives phantom of the opera vibes, with the dark, cool temperature and candle lit tables. From their classic Blanc de Blancs to their vibrant Rosé, each sip is a testament to the artistry and skill of the winemakers. The knowledgeable staff guide you through the tasting with passion and expertise, sharing insights into the winemaking process and the unique characteristics of each wine. I can’t believe they still hand stack and hand turn the bottles!
But it’s not just the wine that makes Schramsberg special; it’s the entire experience. Whether you’re exploring the caves, or simply soaking in the beauty of the surroundings, every moment at Schramsberg is infused with a sense of magic and wonder. It’s definitely a gem and a must visit when you’re in the Napa Valley area.
In summary, Schramsberg Winery is a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates fine wine and the art of winemaking. And if you really love champagne and sparkling wine, this is your must stop place! With its rich history, stunning scenery, and exceptional wines, it’s a place that captures the heart and soul of Napa Valley, leaving visitors with memories to cherish for a lifetime.
